Character Interview: Tyler

The interviewer sits alone in a small room, set up with a few chairs and a single window. He sits on a blue cushion as he waits for his guest. A light breeze flows through the cracks of the floorboards and man with mousy blonde hair and bright eyes enters the room. His smile is contagious as he sits opposite of the interviewer.

Interviewer: Okay, let’s start off with your name, age, and Element.

Subject: Tyler, 23, Air.

Interviewer: What do you think about escaping the Lab?

Tyler: It’s incredible. Although, I feel it may have been pretty stupid in a way.

Interviewer: What makes you say that? You’re free?

Tyler: *shrugs* I guess so. I mean, I still have to keep an open eye over my shoulder. I won’t ever be ‘free’.

Interviewer: What is your favorite thing about your Element?

Tyler: I can create tiny little tornadoes and have them wreck havoc in Jack’s living room. *smiles warmly* OH! *he jumps up with excitement* I CAN FLY! How cool is that!?

Interviewer: Very cool! When did you discover that power?

Tyler: As soon as the sedatives wore off.

Interviewer: How do you feel about Karen, the one who got away? The one who was never subjected to the horrors of the Lab?

Tyler: She is awesome! She has zero control over her Element, but that makes her all the more appealing. Watching Jack run around like a chicken with its head cut off because she blew something up, is pretty cool. As for the ‘horrors of the Lab’, I think she’s been subjected enough. We were almost slowly weaned into this. It just fell on her head one day. After witnessing what she did, I think we’re pretty even. She’ll get through this. I know she will. She’s really strong.

Interviewer: What is your greatest fear?

Tyler: No longer knowing my place in this messed up world.

Interviewer: What is your greatest weakness?

Tyler: I am easily swayed and I am a fantastic liar. *winks* Maybe that’s a strength…

Interviewer: Describe your own happiness?

Tyler: A life free of restraints and fear. A life that doesn’t involve running and shooting and killing and blood. *shakes his head*

Interviewer: Do you trust anyone, Tyler?

Tyler: No. I don’t. Not even Jack. I just can’t, and I’m sure he understands.

Interviewer: Do you think you’ve become what your parents hoped for?

Tyler: I don’t know what they hoped for. A weapon that uses humor in a pathetic attempt to dull the pain? If yes, then yeah. Spot on.

Interviewer: Weapon of choice?

Tyler: A gun. It’s easy. Point, aim, shoot. Just like taking a picture.

Interviewer: How many people have you killed? Have you killed anyone?

Tyler: *laughs* Of course I have! But, I have lost count.

Interviewer: Do you regret anything?

Tyler: I regret, nothing. *laughs and offers a high five*

Interviewer: *takes it, smiling with him before continuing* How do you envision your future?

Tyler: I can’t. There’s not promise of one. I’ve learned that at a very early age. *shrugs* I’m glad I could do this with you though.
